As Harrington Group, Inc. continues to grow, Erik Hahne is eager to contribute to that growth. With a bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology from Oklahoma State University and four years under his belt designing and testing sprinkler systems for a multidisciplinary engineering firm, our newest fire protection consultant is excited to dive in.
“I just want to get more exposure to all aspects of fire protection, and this company is the place to do that,” says Erik, whose first day with HGI was March 22. “I’m a hands-on-type learner, so I’m ready to hit the ground and get out in the field.”
Like many of his peers in the field, Erik didn’t start out studying fire protection. He initially planned for a degree in civil engineering, but switched gears after a friend introduced him to the program at Oklahoma State. The multidisciplinary construction process had always intrigued him, and after several years volunteering with his local fire department, it was a clear fit. He looks forward to building on his sprinkler experience and developing skills around fire alarm/detection systems and performance-based designs.
“I enjoy working with all the different disciplines throughout the construction process,” he says. “Architects, various engineering disciplines and contractors — life safety systems need to be coordinated with everything.”
Erik stays busy, especially these days as he oversees the construction of his new house outside Tulsa. He enjoys fishing and camping during his free time, and spending time at home with his wife and their two dogs and two cats.
