When Alyssa Burroughs was a student in the building systems engineering program at Ranken Technical College, her curriculum included courses in all manner of engineering disciplines, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection. Her first internship was with a fire protection and life safety consulting firm, which turned out to be a great fit, and after graduating with her associate’s degree she became a CAD technician.

In July of this year, Alyssa joined Harrington Group from her home outside St. Louis, Missouri, as a Draw Team Coordinator. Her role will involve managing the draw team’s projects and helping out with their CAD work.

“I’m hoping to gain a lot more skills and knowledge within fire protection,” Alyssa said. She noted that “engineering is everywhere you go,” which is especially gratifying in fire protection because the work saves lives. “I like making a difference, making people safer.”

Alyssa likes to stay busy, both at work and when she’s away from her desk. A self-described outdoorsy person, she loves kayaking, hiking and spending time at the river with friends and family
