ROLE HIGHLIGHTS

Technical Excellence

We are seeking highly skilled dust hazard professionals with expertise in combustible dust hazard analysis and explosion protection. You will ensure assessments and recommendations align with applicable NFPA standards and industry best practices while addressing complex industrial fire and explosion risk challenges.

Leadership & Mentorship

You will support and mentor junior engineers and specialists, helping them develop technical skills and professional confidence. Your role will contribute to strengthening HGI’s dust hazard and process safety expertise.

Project Ownership

You will support multiple dust hazard projects simultaneously, from early-stage hazard assessments through final recommendations, ensuring technical quality, consistency, and efficiency.

Client Engagement

As a trusted technical advisor, you will interface directly with clients, authorities having jurisdiction, insurers, and project stakeholders, providing practical, risk-informed solutions to combustible dust and explosion safety challenges across diverse industries.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and document Dust Hazard Analyses (DHAs) in accordance with applicable standards (including NFPA 660, 652, 654, 61, 484, and 664)
  • Perform industrial facility hazard assessments and process evaluations related to combustible dust risks

  • Develop practical mitigation strategies, including engineering, administrative, and operational controls

  • Evaluate explosion protection and mitigation systems such as venting, suppression, isolation, and containment

  • Interpret material testing data and apply findings to hazard assessments and risk reduction strategies

  • Produce high-quality technical deliverables including reports, narratives, and client presentations

  • Communicate directly with clients, AHJs, insurers, and project stakeholders

  • Coordinate multiple projects while maintaining schedule, quality, and budget expectations

  • Mentor junior engineers and technical staff supporting dust-related work

  • Support regulatory inquiries, insurance reviews, and post-incident evaluations when required

  • Participate in site visits and field assessments at industrial facilities

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding of combustible dust hazards, explosion protection principles, and industrial process safety
  • Experience performing DHAs and facility hazard evaluations

  • Ability to develop practical, defensible mitigation recommendations

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while collaborating effectively with distributed teams

  • Professional judgment and attention to technical detail

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, science, or related technical field — or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in combustible dust hazard analysis, explosion protection, process safety, or related industrial risk consulting

  • Senior-level experience (8–10+ years) strongly preferred

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred but not required

  • Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, processing, or material-handling environments is highly desirable
