Harrington Group, Inc. is proud to announce that our Founder and CEO Jeff Harrington has been awarded the Harold E. Nelson Award by the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) in recognition of his dedication and inspired service to the ideals and goals of the Society.

We can think of no one more deserving of this award, as Jeff completely embodies the qualities this award seeks to recognize.

Outstanding Leadership/Mentoring:

Jeff is an outstanding leader who inspires others to reach their full potential through his example and mentoring of others. He takes time to invest in the lives of those coming behind him, to teach them not only the technical skills, but also communication skills, interpersonal skills, and relationship skills that will help them live more productive and successful lives.

Support of Fire Protection Engineering Practice:

Jeff has served as a member, and often the Chair, of several technical committees and task groups for the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE). He is currently on the Board of Governors for the Society of Fire Protection Engineers Education and Scientific Foundation (SFPE Foundation) and the Board of Governors of the SFPE Greater Atlanta Chapter Foundation. He has authored peer-reviewed articles in “Fire Protection Engineering” the official magazine of SFPE and co-authored a chapter (Carbon Dioxide Systems) in the 5th edition of the SFPE Handbook of Fire Protection Engineering.

Jeff’s dedication to the Fire Protection Engineering Profession has been recognized with the following prior awards:

  • “Hats Off” Award, Society of Fire Protection Engineers (1993)
  • “Excellence in Fire Safety Engineering” Award, Georgia Insurance Commissioner (1992)
  • “Committee Service” Award, National Fire Protection Association (2015)

Jeff is also a Fellow in the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. SFPE Fellows represent a distinguished group of members who have attained significant stature and accomplishment in engineering. Fellows have been members of the Society for at least 10 years and were nominated by their peers for outstanding contributions to the advancement of fire protection engineering and valuable service to SFPE.
