Sherri with her husband, Jim, son Jake, and dog Savannah

Joining the world of fire protection made Sherri Smith look at buildings differently.

“Before, when I went into a mall or somewhere, I never thought about what it took to make people safe in that building,” she said. “And, I think most people don’t. It’s just there.”

As our newest project coordinator, Sherri comes to Harrington Group with more than 20 years in fire protection under her belt. Over the course of her career, she’s used her organizational skills to dabble in marketing, business development, and office management, and she’s learned the ins and outs of the industry by joining her colleagues for surveys, water flow tests, and other fieldwork. Those opportunities have given her an appreciation for the engineers’ work and helped her develop her own expertise when drafting proposals.

“I just feel like the work they’re doing is really important,” she said. “Of course, you’re developing something you hope never has to work, but you know that it’s there to keep people safe.”

Due to the coronavirus pandemic and the resulting stay-at-home orders, Sherri took on her new position from her home office. We at HGI are grateful to have the resources and technology that enable our employees to work at home through these uncertain times, and we look forward to welcoming Sherri and the rest of our new team members in person once it’s safe to do so.

Sherri enjoys mountain biking, bird-watching and reading, and she and her husband Jim (who joined us as a fire protection technician last fall) love taking their three-year-old flat-coated retriever, Savannah, for long hikes on the trails near their home.
