DULUTH, GA – September 22, 2010 – Harrington Group, Inc. (d/b/a Harrington Group, Inc. in the state of NC), a fire protection engineering consulting company, is helping to educate their clients about fire safety during this year’s Fire Prevention Week, which is being observed October 3rd – October 9th. This year’s theme is “Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With”. Harrington Group is providing an information packet to their clients to remind them of how important fire safety is at home, which includes a brochure prepared by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) with tips for choosing home fire alarms, as well as installation and placement considerations. The information packet also includes a brochure tailored to young children which focuses on the importance of testing smoke alarms.

The first observation of Fire Prevention Day was on October 9, 1920. It was proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson in remembrance of the Great Chicago Fire, which occurred on October 8, 1871. Fire Prevention Day was later extended to a full week in 1922 and continues to be the longest running public health & safety awareness program in the history of the United States.
