While there are still only a handful of colleges and universities throughout the United States that offer fire protection engineering degree programs, the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota and the University of Maryland seek to help change that. The two universities have announced a joint Masters in Fire Protection Engineering program, focusing solely on the field, and will be the first program to do so in the Midwest. The master’s program will consist of 30 credits and will be offered to University of St. Thomas students in the Spring 2012 term and will be eligible to students with degrees in engineering. Course work will consist of a combination of on-campus work at the University of St. Thomas and distance learning with the Department of Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland.
