Peter Tuma brings a wealth of knowledge, energy, and experience to Harrington Group as one of our newest Industrial Process Safety Engineers. He joined us with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering and a master’s degree in fire protection engineering, both from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, plus nearly a decade working in design, process safety, and fire protection for a global engineering firm.
“My role is to assist large-scale manufacturing and processing facilities in keeping their employees and facilities safe with minimal impact to production goals,” Peter said. “There are inherent risks involved with industrial manufacturing, and it is my job to try and minimize these risks and ensure that everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.”
With this work comes tremendous variety, which Peter said is both challenging and rewarding.
“There is no one-size-fits-all approach, and every situation is unique and requires a thorough understanding of the situation in order to drive the best results,” he said. “As challenging as it can be to constantly be faced with new and unique problems, I think this variety is also one of the most rewarding aspects of the job.”
Peter’s new role has been a welcome shift after years with a much larger company. He described HGI’s culture as matching up well with his values, and he’s eager to draw from his expertise to help expand service offerings in process safety management. He also looks forward to deepening his knowledge of combustible dust hazards and how they’re handled within the fire protection industry.
Peter lives in Norristown, Pennsylvania, where he spends as much of his free time as possible outdoors — skiing and snowboarding in the winter, and biking, hiking, camping, and visiting the beach during the warmer months.
