As Harrington Group continues to grow, so does our range of expertise. This summer, Mohammed Alam joined the team with a background in industrial process safety engineering.
Originally from Bangladesh, Mohammed moved to the U.S. as a child, grew up in New Jersey, and developed an interest in math and science at a young age. After he graduated from Stevens Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, his first job was in process safety and he instantly fell in love with it.
“Each client has unique challenges, and it’s all about finding the right solutions, thinking critically, being innovative, and at the end you’re providing recommendations and tools to prevent an explosion or a fire in their facilities, and that can save lives,” Mohammed said. “It’s work that keeps me fulfilled, and it’s something I’m very passionate about.”
As he settles into his new role with HGI, he’s looking forward to bringing in and working with a diverse set of clients. He enjoys teaching and training younger engineers, and also learning from others in the field.
“I enjoy having intellectual, honest conversations with my peers about their approaches to situations,” he said. “It’s always interesting to see what we can do and how we can do things better.”
Located in the Washington, D.C. area, Mohammed spends his free time at the gym, traveling, attending concerts, and watching his many beloved sports teams, like the New Jersey Devils, Brooklyn Nets, and Indianapolis Colts.
