Jake Haussels has always been good at building and fixing things. It started with LEGO sets when he was a kid and has evolved into a challenging and satisfying career in fire protection.

Computer-aided design (CAD) classes piqued his interest while he was in high school, and Jake went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design Technology at St. Charles Community College, near his home in St. Louis. Before graduating, a job opportunity that he expected would serve as a practice interview turned into the first seven years of his career — he began as a CAD technician and worked his way up to become a sprinkler design technician and then a project designer.

Now one of Harrington Group’s newest Fire Protection Consultants, Jake is eager to expand his sprinkler knowledge and gain experience across other elements of fire protection.

“Fire protection is unique. There’s always something new with these buildings, and you get to work with all the other disciplines as well,” he said. “There is a lot more to learn and I’m excited about that.”

Even though his job has always required him to travel, Jake also loves to explore new places on his own time, like his recent hiking trip through Zion National Park. Other hobbies include morning cardio classes with his sister, riding his bicycle and motorcycle, competing in mud runs and just about anything else active. He also enjoys channeling his natural ability to fix things into flipping houses.
