Duluth, GA – March 18, 2008. Fire protection engineering firm, Harrington Group, Inc. is pleased to announce the award of a new approximately $45 million Naval Air Station (NAS) project in Pensacola, Florida. The team awarded the project also consists of general contractors Whitesell-Green, Inc. and Opus South Construction Corporation, as well as architect Bullock Tice Associates. Harrington Group, Inc. will be responsible for the design and construction administration of various fire protection systems for two separate facilities for NAS. The first facility will be a one-story, approximately 100,000 sq. ft. building, which will accommodate navigation training functions. This facility will include offices for officers, training areas, mission planning areas, repair & part storage areas, as well as two aircraft hangars that will house several T-6A and T-1 planes.

The second facility will be an approximately 46,000 sq. ft. building, which will accommodate Combat System Officer (CSO) training functions. This facility will include offices for instructors, classrooms, briefing rooms, student home rooms, and six flight simulators.

Harrington Group will be responsible for designing several types of fire protection systems for these facilities, some of which will include: low level, high-expansion foam systems, pre-action sprinkler systems, and mass notification systems. The Project Manager for this project will be Phil Friday, P.E., a Senior Fire Protection Engineer / Fire Investigator with Harrington Group. Mr. Friday has many years of experience in fire protection system design, as well as building and fire code analysis, and is a graduate of the University of Maryland with a Master of Science degree in Fire Protection Engineering.
