Social Circle. GA – May 19, 2010 – Fire protection engineers from Harrington Group, Inc. (Harrington Group) attended the ribbon cutting ceremony on May 19, 2010 for the unveiling of a new 1.5 million square-foot General Mills distribution center located along Hightower Road in Social Circle, Georgia. Harrington Group was engaged by Macgregor Associates Architects and Rockefeller Group Development Corporation to provide fire protection engineering services relative to the design and construction of the fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems for the $42 million facility. The distribution center spreads out across 130 acres in Walton County and is estimated to provide 112 jobs to the area.

The facility is 2,322 feet long, with eight rail doors, and has storage capacity for 500 trailers. It is said to be one of the largest LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certified facilities in the country, and possibly in the world. LEED certification is an internationally recognized certification system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USBGC). It is designed to measure how well a facility performs in the areas of energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
